We’re looking forward to a month of hiking, marching, and engaging environmental advocates in conversations about water quality and land conservation. Jump into our active and educational events coming up in Connecticut and New York, and be sure to mark your calendar for Earth Day on April 22!

March for Science
New York City, Hartford, and New Haven
Saturday, April 22

Join CFE/Save the Sound for the March for Science New York City, a sister march to the March for Science in Washington, D.C. We’ll be marching to demonstrate support for science-based policies and to celebrate the science that allows us to better protect and preserve the land, air, and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound.

Can’t make it to New York? Come find our table at the March for Science Hartford rally, or connect with us at the March for Science New Haven.

Earth Action Day
Saturday, April 22, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Bring your kids to the Port Washington Public Library between 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. for a special Earth Day fair. Save the Sound will have activities to help teach kids about water quality! Let us know you’re coming.

Climate Change in Connecticut and the World
Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m.
Megan Saunders of the Stamford 2030 Program will join Keith Edwards of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project for a presentation and discussion focused on Climate Change in Connecticut and the World at the Byram Shubert Library in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Water quality activities for kids at Sound Off!
Sunday, April 23, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Stop by the Save the Sound booth at Sound Off!, a hands-on event designed to teach families about the importance of Long Island Sound. We’ll have fun activities for kids to learn about water quality at The Whaling Museum & Education Center of Cold Spring Harbor in New York. Let us know you’re coming.

Hike The Preserve with Chris Cryder
Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
Get outside on Earth Day weekend! Join Chris Cryder for a guided hike of The Preserve from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Hikers will gather at The Preserve’s eastern parking area off of Ingham Hill Road in Essex, Connecticut. This will be a moderate hike with some steep hills. Contact Chris Cryder with questions.

The Water Conversation Series
Monday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m.
We’re hosting free library talks in shore communities of western Long Island Sound to introduce area residents to our Report Card on Long Island Sound’s health. Join us at the Scarsdale Public Library, 7:00 p.m. RSVP here.

Defend the trees that protect the Connecticut River’s banks and provide habitat for bald eagles! Come speak out against aggressive tree-cutting near Hartford’s Brainard Airport at public hearings held by the Connecticut Airport Authority. All meetings are at 7:00 p.m. on the following dates: April 18 (Hartford), April 19 (Glastonbury), and April 27 (Wethersfield). Click here for more information.

Join Save the Sound and Quinnipiac University students on New Haven’s Rock to Rock Day of Service for a site cleanup and invasive plant removal effort at the Pond Lily Nature Preserve in New Haven, Connecticut. Contact Annalisa Paltauf to participate.

Discover Oswegatchie Hills
Thursday, April 6; Saturday, April 8; and Tuesday, April 18
Join Suzanne Thompson for a photo overview of the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve and find out why local groups are calling to “Save the Last Mile” of coastal forest above the Niantic River from ill-conceived development. Or, join Friends of Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve for a guided hiking tour of the Hills! Highlights include Clark Pond, a rocky ledge overlook, and a favorite lava dome.
