Clean Water
Water is a staple of life for Connecticut and New York residents.
With 5,380 river miles and 64,973 acres of lakes in Connecticut, and 1,415 square miles of estuarine waters in Connecticut and New York, many residents (human and wildlife) reside close to bodies of water; therefore, the health of our rivers, lakes, streams and Long Island Sound is important to the health, economy, and livelihood of the state.
However, many things, like pollution, bacteria and development threaten the health of our water every day and render these bodies of water impaired for aquatic life, fish consumption, recreation, and shellfish harvesting.
Through advocacy, legislative and legal work, hands-on projects, and volunteer efforts, CFE/Save the Sound works to ensure that the health of our water is constantly improving.
