Saving the Sound for more than three decades
Save the Sound has been part of Connecticut Fund for the Environment since 2004. But long before that, this organization was a forerunner in the mission to protect and restore Long Island Sound.

Why is there such a strong focus on a relatively small body of water that Connecticut citizens share with New York residents?
Our Sound is unique in its diversity—from tidal wetlands and coastal grasslands to island forests. There is truly no other environment quite like it. Its beauty attracts beachcombers and vacationers from around the U.S. Yet it is located in one of the most densely populated regions of the U.S., supporting a variety of commercial uses. Arising out of this fact are the issues that Save the Sound was founded to address.
Together we have accomplished a great deal to protect the Sound. Click here.

Long Island Sound Photo Contest
Congratulations to the winners of our first photo contest! Richard Sack took first place with his incredible photograph of Oyster Bay in a storm, above. Nina Hastings, age 11, swept the junior division with her picture, at right, expressing how much she "hearts" the Sound. Our thanks to everyone who contributed their wonderful pictures of what the Sound means to them. Click an image to enlarge it.
