New attorneys and an opportunity to help us grow

Our legal team is growing, and there’s a special opportunity for you to help make us even stronger.

Defending your land, air, and water has been central to our mission since we were founded four decades ago. We fight to keep giant fossil fuel facilities out of Long Island Sound, to stop power plants from fouling our air, to get bacterial pollution cleaned up, and to protect great natural landscapes like The Preserve and Plum Island from being turned into golf courses.

Jack Looney comes to CFE/Save the Sound after 26 years in the environmental division of the CT Attorney General's office.
Jack Looney comes to CFE/Save the Sound after 26 years in the environmental division of the CT Attorney General’s office.

That’s why we’re so pleased to announce that this week, attorney Jack Looney has joined our legal team. With the addition of Jack’s position, made possible by a generous anonymous donor, our legal team can do more than ever to protect your precious natural resources.

This week we’re also welcoming Rachael Gaudio, our Peter B. Cooper Legal Fellow for 2015-2017, supported by the Vervane Foundation.

And that’s not all. The same anonymous donor has initiated a generous matching gift challenge to ensure our legal program can continue to grow.

Individual donors can leverage as much as $2 for each $1 in appreciated stock or monetary contributions to CFE/Save the Sound. Multi-year gifts, gifts to our endowment, additional funds for the challenge pot, and support for legal programs all leverage matching funds. The anonymous challenger understands that the work of CFE/Save the Sound, particularly legal battles, is long-term and wants to inspire others to join in the organization’s sustained vitality. To find out how to leverage your giving, please contact Heidi Green, our Director of Advocates and Special Gifts, at hgreen@ctenvironment.org.

Advocating for good environmental laws is critically important, but these laws are meaningless without diligent enforcement. Our ability to do both sets us apart. We’re proud of our legal team’s accomplishments. Read more on our Legal Actions page or browse past victories on our map.
