Watchdog

CFE/Save the Sound has offices in New Haven, CT and Mamaroneck, NY and a mobile presence across the entire Sound thanks to Long Island Soundkeeper Bill Lucey and his patrol boat, the Terry Backer.

Still, we can’t be everywhere all the time. That’s where the citizen watchdog comes in!

We rely on people all around the Sound’s shores and throughout its watershed to keep their eyes, ears, and noses alert to potential water pollution. Reports from the public provide important leads that our staff investigators follow up on—confirming the report, alerting the appropriate authorities, tracking down the source of pollution and, when needed, taking legal action to remedy it.

Find out what to look for on land and on the water, and how to submit a pollution report. Check out a pollution-busting success story made possible by citizen watchdogs. And thank you for doing your part to turn the tide on water pollution!
